Tonight after I posted my last blog entry I went on to read new blog posts of my SMA friends and I was shocked and saddened to find out that little Owen lost his battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy this evening. His blog was the first one I started reading after Nicholas's diagnosis and I felt an instant connection to him and his family because he reminded me so much of Nicholas. His sweet little smiles warmed my heart and helped me to feel less alone as I tried to understand Nicholas's new diagnosis.
It is so frustrating to me that there is a potential cure that could save these kids' lives and while we're waiting for it to become available, children are dying.
It's heartbreaking.
It's senseless.
Please help us close the funding gap and make the cure available to our kids: go to www.uniteforthecure.com/donate to make a donation. We need to end this disease NOW before any more children lose their lives. I cannot even imagine the sorrow and loss Owen's parents are feeling this evening. My heart goes out to them.
Our love and prayers are with you Simmons family.

You know, I saw your post on FB that another little one lost the battle. But I didn't realize it was Owen. I started reading their blog after finding the link on yours. When I saw that it was Owen, the breath just left my body. You do start building little connections with these families but never really meet them. I'm so sad for this family. And you too Jess.
Praying for Owen's sweet family and for you too tonight my friend.
I just came here from your FB and read more about Owen and his battle-what a little fighter. I am so sad for his family to have lost such a special little boy and will certainly be sending them my thoughts and prayers. As well as them, you are in my thoughts and prayers as well, as well as little Nicholas as always.
Take care, Em
