Easter always starts with Holy Week and I love this photo taken at Holy Thursday mass with Father Mitchell mimicking Jesus at the Last Supper and humbling himself to wash the feet of twelve parishioners. Father is leaving Holy Redeemer at the end of June and I teared up several times during the Holy Week services thinking of him leaving. That coupled with Jesus' amazing sacrifice of self on the cross for you and I was almost too much. I think I could have cried my eyes out if I would have let myself.
We had a wonderful Easter Sunday this year. The whole family slept in which mommy was quite happy about since I had been at the Easter Vigil mass the night before until after midnight. It was an absolutely beautiful mass and Holy Redeemer had fourteen blessed people receive the sacraments of baptism, Eucharist, and confirmation.
When the kids woke up on easter morning, they were excited to discover that the Easter Bunny ("Rabbit", as Ella likes to call him) had brought baskets filled with goodies for them. Ella put on her new necklace immediately and wore it all day.
Nicholas cannot eat by mouth anymore, so the Easter Bunny was very thoughtful to fill his eggs with coins instead of candy.
After baths, the kids were dressed in their Sunday best and mom tried to snap a few photos on my favorite day of the year.
After being ill for several months, Nicholas was not too thrilled about sitting up on the sofa. I got one little smiley grimace out of him, but the rest looked like...
this.
Poor kiddo, I didn't torture him too long and we was happy to lie down again after a few minutes. Ella felt sorry for her big brother and tried to make him laugh so he wouldn't cry. I love their sweet sibling bond.
Ella got a new camera from the "Rabbit" and she happily took photos of everything she saw all day. After she would snap a picture, she would exclaim, "See! Now you're a princess!" or "My magic camera changed you to a princess!" since the image on the back of the camera shows several of the Disney princesses after each click.
Later in the afternoon our whole family went to my parents' house for dinner. The kids were super excited to have an egg hunt in their grandparents massive backyard. Gramme pulled out a couple baskets to keep the found eggs in, while mom hid the eggs. Then the hunt began!
Gramme pushed Nicholas in his medical stroller and we turned him on his side so he could get a good view of the hidden eggs.
Ella ran everywhere looking for all the pink eggs.
See? She's such a girly girl and loves all things pink!
After gathering quite a few eggs, Elizabeth decided to help Nicholas find some.
She waited patiently while Nicholas hunted for a few with his grandmother.
The she was off again!
Nicholas ended up with a lot of eggs and he made out like a bandit money-wise. He got $5.96 total on his hunt all of which he placed in his piggy bank. He wants to save all of his money until summer and then cash it in to buy a new toy.
After a yummy dinner of salmon, pasta salad, roasted brussel sprouts, and rosemary bread Gramme broke out the most delicious desserts.
Ella was drooling over all of them, then she spotted a special one just for her.
Thoughtful Gramme got her a special cupcake decorated with a "Rabbit" and an Easter basket.
It's safe to say she loved it!
Happy Easter season from our home to yours.
