School Switch

Our sweet boy is FINALLY one hundred percent back-to-normal!! Yahoo! It took a little over two weeks for Nicholas to feel great again, but he is finally back to base line.

We've made some changes this week regarding Nicholas' schooling. After much discussion and deliberation, weighing the pros and cons, and asking Nicholas what he wants, we've decided to pull Nicholas out of public school and home school him. This decision comes after a variety of circumstances: a couple colds in only one month (cold/flu season hit the Pacific Northwest early this year), anxiety on Nicholas' part after an incident at school where the paramedics were called, and just simply wanting to spend more time with my son. I have my masters degree in elementary education so I know I am completely qualified to educate him at home and he seems to be very happy with our decision. The last day he (almost) attended school he was bawling in the car because he wanted to return home so badly. I ended up taking him home that day and my heart saw a boy who seeks comfort, familiarity, and a who is a bit of a homebody like his mommy. Next week we will dive into his new Kindergarten curriculum and I know he's going to enjoy it immensely. Ella will also get to do some preschool lessons while her brother is learning, and she's super excited to start school also!

Ella was my helper last weekend when I spent all day Saturday running errands. She loves Trader Joe's "Customer In Training" mini carts and likes to choose which items go into her cart and which go into mine.

On Saturday evening my brother, Eric, generously donated one of the salmon he caught the day before to us. It was delicious and as fresh as can be! I seasoned our fillet with salt & pepper, then layered sliced red onions on top, then covered it all with a layer of mayo mixed with dill, garlic, parsley, and fresh squeezed lemon juice. Mmmm, perfection!

We were really spoiled with seafood this week. On Monday, Jeff's good friend, Scott, gave us some fresh crab that he trapped at the coast over the weekend, so on Monday night we enjoyed crab and roasted veggies for dinner.

We're so relieved that Nicholas is healthy again and was able to avoid going into the hospital. We're prayerful he can stay healthy and enjoy some of the fun activities we have planned for the rest of the fall and winter months.

Little Miss demonstrated her iPad skills today by showing mommy that she knows how to navigate my Etsy app and can easily find things she wants to buy. Today she said, "Mommy, I think I need a new clock for my room. I like this one." I will admit she has good taste!

Here is our munchkin attempting to sing the alphabet song. Obviously, school at home couldn't be starting at a better time!

I am so thrilled to hear Nicholas is feeling better and your tough decision about school is made. You are the only one who knows what is best for your little boy and your family and I have no doubt it is the right decision! You will be a wonderful teacher to Nicholas and I know he will thrive while learning at home. It is a tough gig for teacher/Mom, but I know you will do it amazingly. Good luck and I look forward to reading about how it all goes!
Hugs, Emma
