Labor Day Weekend Fun

This photo of the kids is actually from the weekend before labor day when we went to dinner at my parents' house for a salmon seafood feast. Nicholas loves when Ella pushes him around in his stroller and Gramme & Grandpa's huge upper desk is the best place to stroll with little sis. 

All day last Saturday Jeff & I had a date day! Jeff was given two tickets to the Oregon Ducks pre-season game against Nichols State and we were really excited to see one of our favorite teams play. However, we left our house at 10:00 a.m. to make it to Eugene for the 1:00 p.m. kick-off, and a drive that should have taken two hours turned into a huge parking lot an hour in. We were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on a two-lane highway and after some deliberation decided that our best bet was to head back a few miles to Salem, find a sports bar and watch the game rather than battling traffic, searching for a parking spot, braving the thousands of spectators to find our seats and miss most of the game. So we detoured, ate at the Ram Restaurant and Brewery, drank a couple of microbrews and watched the first two quarters of the Ducks game on the big screen. 

Then we decided to drive a little closer to home and watched the end of the game at a local sports bar, cheering with the other Duck fans and later the WSU Cougar fans. 

Honestly, it didn't matter at all to us that we missed the game. I was just beyond thrilled to have a whole day alone with my husband. We truly had such a great time just laughing and talking, eating yummy food, and having an spontaneous adventure. It doesn't matter what we do, because we always have a lot of fun together. I am so lucky to be married to such a great guy who is my best friend. 

 On Sunday after church and chores, we went to our neighbor's house to swim and BBQ. 

Ella is quite the little swimmer these days. She puts on her life vest and doggy paddles all over the pool. She even attempted to go off the little slide. 

 Ella and Jeff are two peas in a pod, they both LOVE swimming and water of any kind. Jeff is a kid at heart- jumping off the diving board doing all sorts of flips and cannon balls. Nicholas and Ella thought he was so silly. 

Grace and Harrison are so great to our kids and such good mini-hosts.

Later that evening after the kids went to bed and a baby-sitter came to our house, Jeff and I went back over to our friend's house for some adult beverages and some games. 

 We felt pretty darn lucky to have two dates two days in a row. What a wonderful long weekend!
